คนเรานั้นสามารถมองเห็นวัตถุต่างๆ มีสีสันได้เกิดมาจากแสงขาวตกกระทบกับวัตถุ และกระจายสีที่ไม่สามารถดูดกลืนไว้ได้เข้ามาในตาเรา มนุษย์จึงมีวิวัฒนการจากการที่เราสามารถมองเห็นวัตถุต่างๆ มีสีสันได้อย่างไม่น่าเชื่อ สีกลายเป็นตัวแทนต่างๆ ในทั้งด้านสังคม อารมณ์ และ รวมไปถึงวัฒนธรรม เช่น คำว่า Blueใช้อธิบายห้วงอารมณ์กำลังหม่นหมอง, สีแดงเป็นตัวแทนของการขจัดปัดเป่าสิ่งชั่วร้าย (อ้างอิงตุ๊กตาในจังหวัดฮิดะ, ญี่ปุ่น. ที่เป็นสีแดง) หรือกระทั่งความเชื่อเรื่องสีเสื้อมงคลประจำวัน ฯลฯ
